I've been listening to you for years, and your advice has helped me to be a strong mama bear and girlfriend to my hunky husband! My youngest child was adopted from foster care at 18 months old. When he began middle school, he started getting into trouble. My son was rebellious, doing drugs, skipping school, and not coming home. We had to intervene before he did something stupid that would affect his life forever. I've heard you tell parents in similar situations, "This is above your pay grade." That is exactly what I told my husband.
We hired a company to come in the middle of the night and take him to a 6-week therapeutic wilderness camp that was 100% outdoors. Needless to say, his world was turned upside down. Thankfully he had an excellent attachment therapist who worked with us to address the underlying reason for his behaviors. He is now 21 years old, a plumber apprentice, and living on his own. He thanks us all the time for being strong, loving parents who took action.
