I decided to stay home and do my best to make a stable home because my husband had a demanding job. When my husband was home, he was engaged and could do the work of several men because he was organized and truly cared about his family. I always shared with my husband what was happening at home, school and in the neighborhood. He not only listened but he would act if needed.
This all sounds rosy, but there was a time, early on, that I thought about leaving my marriage. I’m so glad that I chose to stay because I was only thinking of myself. Now that our kids are grown, I see that we made a really good team. And I know that our teamwork made an impression on our kids. My daughter-in-law once told me she “had some pretty big shoes to fill” after our son told her what kind of a home manager I had been!
