Email of the Day: My In-Laws Are My Role Models

Written by Dr. Laura | 7/18/24 8:15 AM

I heard you talking about the topic of relationships with your in-laws, and I thought I would share my thoughts. I might be in the minority in this situation, but I was blessed with wonderful in-laws! They were always there to help us raise our wonderful three children, who have countless memories of them. There wasn’t a day they didn't see the kids, even if it was just dropping off fruit for them! We spent countless Sundays together, and they never missed their grandkids’ events. Everyone, even friends of our children, knew them as their Grandma and Grandpa.

Although they’ve both passed at this point, my in-laws' lessons will stay with us forever. They showed my husband and me what grandparents should be like. We’ve been blessed with four grandbabies of our own who live nearby, and we’re also a big part of their lives. We have swimming parties, sleepovers, play dates, vacations, etc. My husband and I carry on the tradition of being involved and building beautiful memories!

Before my mother-in-law's passing, our grandchildren were blessed with visiting their great-grandma! They loved her as much as she loved seeing them. We were thankful they had that special time with her, just like my husband and my kids and I had.
