Email of the Day: Weeding Your Garden

Email of the Day: Weeding Your Garden

I heard you talking about “weeding your garden” and I wanted to say that it is such a liberating and life-changing action. My sister has been verbally abusive to me for years. I guess I’m a little thick-headed because it took me 50 years to finally say "Enough!" But now my life is peaceful.

My sister is only 1½ years older, and we shared the same friends growing up. She’s funny and charming, but if I ever upset her, she would lose her mind. Two years ago, she launched an attack on my daughter that really crossed the line. Enough was enough, and I said I no longer wished to have regular contact with her. She proceeded to text me vile things, and I just remained silent.

It’s funny — I think I was willing to accept the abuse because I liked her. I thought I would miss her friendship, but I do not. I am free. I am not mad at her, just free of her.

I want to thank you for the profound impact you have had on my life.
