The Secret To A Long Marriage
06/27/2017

Last year, I enrolled in a class at a local college titled "The Psychology of Women."  I was 65 at the time, and totally retired from the US Air Force and a civilian job as well, so  I take classes for fun and enjoyment.  On the first day, I was only one of three men in this class of 40 students.  I expected to be outnumbered, but I only hoped that it wasn't going to be a male-bashing class.  Almost all of the students were between 18 and 21 (and some at first thought I was the teacher!).

A month later, the instructor wanted to hear from one of the men as we discussed relationships.  I volunteered that I was 65 years old and had been married to the same woman for 35 years.  They applauded and asked what my secret was to such a long marriage.  Here's what I told them:  the day we were married, I promised to love, honor and cherish my wife, and that meant ALL THE TIME, not just when I felt like it.  I still treat her like we're dating and look at her the same way as the day we met.  We've never had an argument because she's always right and knows me like a book.  My wife and my girlfriend have the same name and they both know about each other.  I've always said that if you want to have an affair, do it with your spouse; it's so much easier, and you don't have to sneak around to hide anything!

After that, the instructor said, "Wow, do you have any brothers?"  Toward the end of the semester, one of the young women approached me and said she'd been trying to get her boyfriend to come to class just so he could hear me speak.  My wife and I are now married for 36 years, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wrap my arms around her and let her know how wonderful she is.
