Beginning today, I'll be on the sea for the Newport Harbor Yacht Club - Cabo 2011 race. We'll be sailing 800 miles from Newport Beach, California to Cabo san Lucas, Mexico. I'm the skipper of the Katana.
We are an hour from the start. We are spending our time going over safety equipment, techniques and weather forecast. We are anticipating tomorrow (Sunday) being a bumpy day. We are well organized, enthusiastic and READY to roll.
If you want, you'll be able to follow my progress here. When the race first starts, all you'll see on this map are little "boat icons" all scrunched together, but you can zoom in. Each of those icons represents one of the 30 boats in the race. If you scroll over them, you'll see the name of the boat. Look for the Katana, which is where we'll be. The race is expected to take about six days, but it depends on weather conditions.
More updates later!
